Indonesian language training at ULearn International Education

Lara Rikkers, an Australian teacher of Indonesia spent one full week to brush up her Indonesian with us for a week on 26 – 30 October. Lara was accompanied by her husband who was busy looking after their seven year old son, Joshua, while she was in Denpasar doing her studies. We were all surprised to learn that she worked for SIDE (School of the Isolated and Distance Education) and that she knew us from Ibu Karen Bailey, one of our very close friends.

Lara completed a 15-hour course at Intermediate Level. She hopes that she could come back to Bali next year to undertake another 15 hours to complete the level. We managed to spend about one and a half hours for a vegetarian lunch just around the block. During the lunch she and Pak Bun kept mentioning the unending list of WILTA teachers, many of whom were our old good friends.

Earlier in July we also hosted Jessica Tom from Port Hedland for two weeks during which she undertook an intensive study of Indonesian language. She was very keen to be a volunteer in Bali that we managed to find her a school to host her. We met the principal and staff members.

It was also very surprising to learn that Jessica was a former student of Ibu Karen Bailey in her Indonesian language study program offered through Balai Bahasa Indonesia Perth. What a small world! Like many young Australians we have ever met, Jessica was also a keen student to learn Indonesian language and culture and to mingle with the Indonesian people she met in Bali.
